Laptop Design Unconventional Cover


Ziba hopes to see the computer sold with a special protective folio that, at first glance, looks like a fashionable cover for a personal diary. The folio, which clings to the laptop with embedded magnets, is equipped with contacts that connect the laptop to an external digital screen. That display can be used to read e-mail or display a screensaver or photo (the sort of personalization popular with cell phones). The folio, which plugs into an electric outlet, can also double as a wireless charger for the laptop and other devices.

Unlike most notebooks, this laptop's screen isn't encased, photo-frame-like, in a plastic rim. Instead, the glass extends to the very edges, mimicking a look found in high-end flat-panel TVs. The screen contains light sensors, which adjust brightness automatically. It also features a built-in video camera.

Computing pioneers have seen the need for multi-core processors ever since the advent of multitasking, but due to the lethargy of chip makers, and their flawed strategy of making faster, yet singular architecture based CPUs, the true multitasking revolution has been held back far too long. But then, better late than never - even though the reasons for going multi-core now may be a lot different from those in the early days.

Intel E7200


When Intel first released its flagship processor (QX9650) back in November 2007, we witnessed the first entry into the 45nm domain. This brought a host of features and improvements to an already popular Core 2 Micro architecture. Looking at the current market we have Intel's dual cores E8xxx series, which are being sold in the range of 8K and 10K. While these are very popular and give excellent value, they are still priced on the higher side. While we still have the E4xxx series for the budget conscious user, if you wanted to get into the 45nm arena, you had to start-off with one of the E8xxx processors.
Intel noticed this gap and decided to release a group called the E7xxx line of processors that would cater to users on a budget. Of course some features would have to be cut down due to the positioning in Intel's lineup but still we would get a 45nm processor with all the benefits. The new 45nm line of processors is codenamed 'Penryn' with dual cores codenamed 'Wolfdale' and the new quadcores named 'YorkField'. Intel Pineview Due in Second Half of 2009


Intel's Atom Pineview CPUs based on Lincroft architecture will be targeted at netbooks and nettops
As reported last month, Intel announced that it is prepping the Intel Atom successor, which would be the 32nm fabrication process built Medfield. But before that, an Atom variation dubbed as Pineview will appear in the second half of 2009. As per a DigiTimes report, sources at notebook makers have confirmed the arrival of single core and dual core Pineview processors. Atom variant Pineview processors will be built on 45nm fabrication process and will feature built-in northbridge functions, an integrated memory controller, and GMA 950 IGP. The northbridge integration will reduce motherboard area consumption by almost 60%. The Pineview's core frequency will be clocked higher than the current 1.6GHz Atom processors. Also, memory bus support will be boosted to DDR2 667Mhz from DDR2 533MHz. Even the GMA 950 IGP graphics core will be clocked to 200MHz from 133MHz. New low-cost Pine Trail-M netbook platform will be offered, which will pair Pineview with all new Tiger Point southbridge chips. One of the crucial specifications, the Thermal Design Power rating will drop to 7W instead of the 8W found in the current Atom processors.

Intel's Convertible Classmate 2.0 version laptop was spotted for sale at the CES 2009 - re-branded as 2go Convertible Classmate PC. Manufactured by Computer Technology Link, this Classmate 2.0 has exactly the same configuration like that of the first Classmate PC, but with swivel (turnable touchscreen). The second version of Classmate PC is priced at a steep $550 (Rs. 26,500 approx.).
